My album work began at the tail end of a decade of music production for media, some of it collected here for this compilation. Listening back, it was a testing ground for ideas that would appear on future releases. It also captures some of my musical interests of that period: Radiohead, William Orbit, Mark Isham, Peter Gabriel, Ten and Tracer, Christ., Cliff Martinez, Boards of Canada, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Thomas Newman.

'pink quartzite' and 'jacaranda' are outliers here: early incarnations of tracks from label releases.

I traveled back to my homeland of South Africa several times during this decade; the track titles are drawn from the words and places of my youth.
